Emirates will now fly across the seven seas with its newly launched maritime arm, Emirates Sealine.
On April 1, lucky ship spotters and cruise enthusiasts caught a glimpse of the first liner as it made its majestic voyage to Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah.
Emirates Sealine promises top-notch and unprecedented experiences for cruisers as they sail to never-before-seen ports of call. It placed a massive multibillion-dollar order for an initial 10 cruise ships, which are currently outfitted with the latest and greatest cruise ships.
Emirates Sealine will back away from conferences and offer cruise calendars outside of traditional seasons after identifying a major gap in the industry’s offering. The inaugural voyage is scheduled to depart from Dubai Harbor on 1 April 2024, with Karachi as the first port of call – recalling the airline’s inaugural voyage in October 1985.
Tours and reservations will open June 31st. The Emirates liner will call at major cruise ports – charting routes from the US to New Zealand – and will be supported by the airline’s vast network.
Newly appointed Emirates Sealine Chief Maritime Officer Captain Jack Shallow said: “Emirates are no strangers to the ocean, having raced powerboats in Dubai, the Emirates Team New Zealand and most recently the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team. The city still faces challenges, but Dubai is sailing smoothly at unimaginable speeds and has excellent cruise and other intermodal infrastructure.
“The technology, artificial intelligence and innovation developing our next generation of cruise ships means we can mirror the pace of the city and sail at speeds in excess of 50 knots – nearly double the speed of today’s fastest cruise ships. Unexpected luxury onboard, never-before-heard itineraries and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. We will run tight to make sure we deliver on our promises to our clients. Now everything is in the works as the team prepares to launch.”
Emirates Sealine will lead the industry’s pace around ocean sustainability by partnering with suppliers on sustainable marine fuel (SMF), solar panels, recycling and waste management.
Arriving in Dubai from the airline’s global network, Emirates passengers will travel from DXB to Dubai Harbor in a custom-built electric chauffeur-driven vehicle, where they will be escorted in a seamless air, land and sea journey to their luxury cabin onboard.
The cruise fleet will feature four cabin types offering varying levels of space, amenities and luxury. Further product and service details may be released in the future.
Over the next few months, Emirates Sealine will recruit thousands of seafarers and specialists with a range of skills and expertise to manage operations and serve guests with the airline’s signature hospitality, supporting the economic development of its entire network .
