Sichuan Southwest Civil Aviation Vocational College in Chengdu reportedly extended the one-day National Day holiday to a full week and informed all students and staff of the decision through a notice titled “‘Fuchun’ holiday notice.” fox newsThe notice encourages people to “get out of the classroom, out of the campus, feel nature, feel the beauty of spring and love”.

Taking similar measures, Xiamen University also gave students a full week off. According to Sichuan Southwest Vocational College, the spring break will not shorten the class time for students because they need to complete various homework during the holiday. Liu Ping, deputy dean of the college, said the holiday should be seen as a way for students to combine their practical life with their studies.

News of the postponement has sparked mixed reactions on Chinese social media. Most users said they were envious of the students and staff at both universities, while some expressed hope that it would become a national norm.

“I’m sure this is just another attempt to get people to have more children,” wrote one netizen on Weibo. Others criticized it as a cheap attempt to lure more students to enroll in vocational education.
