Labor disputes down 40% in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi has seen a 40% drop in labor disputes in 2022 compared to 2021, thanks to awareness-raising efforts that have helped strengthen legal culture among workers and companies.

Counselor Youssef Saeed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Justice, attributed the achievement to the department’s successful outreach campaign in collaboration with strategic partners under the direction of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, Presidential Court Minister, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Justice, consolidates legal knowledge for all sectors of society.

Al Abri said that progress in the legal process of labor cases, and the way labor courts deal with disputes, constitutes an important support for strengthening economic stability both institutionally and personally.

Also, through these promotional campaigns, the department aspires to attract many clients by visiting their locations and providing them with translations in up to five languages ​​(Arabic, English, Urdu, Pashto and Bengali), To make the target group aware of the important legal provisions guaranteeing their rights and to answer their questions and inquiries and provide legal advice.

Rights and obligations

Over the past year, a number of campaigns targeting worker accommodation have aimed to familiarize workers with their obligations under the new labor law. These activities emphasize the need to observe occupational safety and health instructions, protect production tools and implements, not hold work-related documents or electronic files for personal gain, adhere to good behavior, not divulge secrets, maintain work, strive to develop functional and professional skills and improve performance levels.

These activities also aim to inform employees about the procedures for entering into contracts with employers, the correct methods and channels for filing complaints, obtaining rights under the employment contract in case of termination of the contract or failure of the employer to fulfill its obligations, and about termination requirements.

Mechanisms of obtaining unemployment insurance, regulations for transfer to another workplace, ways of obtaining a new work permit according to specific rules, the importance of referring to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation when an agreed job offer is cancelled, the employer does not provide it or the worker does not claim it on time Wages, both of which have been emphasized in these campaigns, also emphasize the importance of the right of employees to leave the company after fulfilling their obligations, as well as compliance with national laws to express dissatisfaction and complaints through legal channels.
