“I still feel like I’m 11”

Comedy icon Carol Burnett is reflecting on her upcoming 90th birthday.

“I can’t understand it,” Burnett said this week in People magazine. “I still feel like I’m about 11, but I’m surprised. It did go really fast. But I’m happy because I got all my parts—got my hip, I got my knee, I Got my brain, so I’m happy about that.”

Burnett was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame and six-time Emmy Award winner for “The Carol Burnett Show” (CBS, 1967-78) and other projects, and received a Tony Award, Mark Twain Award and other honors, Burnett recalls the moment she wanted to pursue a career in comedy.

“I never really thought about it until I took an acting class at UCLA,” she told the magazine. “A lot of the kids in the class were doing heavy, dramatic stuff, and I thought, I can’t do it. So I chose something light and they all laughed. That’s when the bug bit.”

Ahead of the two-hour NBC special “Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love,” which airs on her birthday, April 26, the star said she hopes her legacy will be, “I made people laugh, Make them feel good when they might go down.”

Many fans wrote in, she said, telling her that “The Carol Burnett Show” “was the only time the whole family got together, watched and laughed together. Sometimes they were alone, but cheered up because of our show. This It’s a good feeling”

She separately told Remind Magazine’s 90th birthday, “It’s hard for me to concentrate, but I feel good considering the other options,” while filming the special last month, “There were no balloons, cakes, confetti or anything for that. I Don’t want it,” added, “It’s a roast. It’s a variety show with live entertainment. We have a 19-piece orchestra!”

The special featured “Carol Burnett Show” cast member Vicki Lawrence, and Burnett told Remind, “We’re going to [fellow troupe members] Harvey Korman, Tim Conway and Lyle Waggoner. ” Performers include Kristin Chenoweth, Jane Lynch, Katy Perry, Bernadette Peters and Billy Porter, guests include Garden City’s Susan Lucci and Julie Andrews, Steve Carell, Cher, Laura Dern, Ellen DeGeneres , Bill Hader, Amy Poe Le, Erin Quinn, Tracee Ellis Ross, Marisa Tomei, Lily Tomlin, Sofia Vergara and Kristen Wiig.

A successful theater actor, Burnett landed his most recurring role on the final season of the psychological crime series Better Call Saul. She will next appear in the upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series “Palm Royale” (formerly known as “Mrs. American Pie”).
