Qatari, UAE officials discuss progress at Al-Ula in Abu Dhabi – Doha News

[ad_1]

Previous reports said several Qatar-based news sites were unblocked in Abu Dhabi.

The Qatari and UAE delegations held their fourth follow-up meeting in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday to discuss the implementation of the 2021 Ula Declaration, Doha Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

During the meeting, Qatar was represented by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, the UAE is represented by Ali Saeed Matar Al Neyadi.

“The two sides discussed joint mechanisms and procedures for the implementation of the Euler Declaration, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the relationship between the two countries and cooperating to achieve common interests,” the statement read.

The meeting is one of the latest developments in Qatar-UAE relations, which have been gradually revived since the signing of the declaration in 2021.

In 2017, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed ties with Qatar, imposing an illegal land, sea and air blockade on the country. At the time, the Quartet accused Qatar of supporting terrorism, although Doha has vehemently denied the “baseless” allegations.

However, the parties involved in the region’s worst diplomatic rift in decades signed the Euler Accord in 2021, putting an end to it.

Although the blockade has ended, relations between Qatar and other countries have developed at different speeds, with the UAE developing more slowly than others.

However, in May last year, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani visited the UAE for the first time since the crisis was resolved, paying tribute to current President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed after the death of former ruler Sheikh Khalifa. Al-Nahyan expressed his condolences to bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.

Progress was also made late last year when the UAE president made a surprise visit to Qatar during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In March, the UAE reportedly withdrew its bid to host the 2026 World Bank IMF and World Bank meetings in favor of Qatar.

According to Al-Monitor, the UAE has also reportedly unblocked several Qatari news sites following the end of the GCC crisis, although news from Doha remains banned.
