Lenovo announced the next generation of its ThinkEdge remote automation and orchestration software solution to accelerate the deployment of edge solutions.
Lenovo’s new Lenovo Open Cloud Automation (LOC-A) 2.6 software provides secure automated setup, enabling customers to deploy global edge deployments in any number of locations in minutes, with one-click provisioning, smartphone or tablet.
The new Lenovo XClarity edge-to-cloud management software also simplifies orchestration, maintenance and metering with a unified view of all Lenovo edge-to-cloud solutions.
ThinkEdge SE10
Lenovo also introduced its highly adaptable ThinkEdge SE10, an entry-level client edge device optimized to allow customers to capture analog and digital data such as temperature and humidity on the outermost layers of their business. Together, these solutions will help enterprises in many high-growth industries accelerate the global rollout of edge computing, generate insights faster and accelerate intelligent transformation.
As the volume of global data from sensors, cameras and other sources grows exponentially, next-generation technologies that deliver data center-like computing to the edge are helping companies overcome network limitations.
To reduce the lag caused by massive data transfers, customers are leveraging edge computing technologies to process data at the source of its creation, benefiting from faster actionable insights and delivering innovative services to end users.
scalable server
However, edge site locations are often unattended and difficult to reach. Combined with new scalable servers and computing services, Lenovo’s full range of edge-to-cloud solutions will enable enterprises to simultaneously deploy entire networks of edge devices across the globe, leading a critical evolution in data intelligence.
“As demand for edge computing grows, customers face challenges in deploying and managing a large number of edge sites due to complexity and resource constraints,” said Charles Ferland, Group Vice President and General Manager of Edge Computing, Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions. “With the new Lenovo Open Cloud Automation and end-to-end ThinkEdge client and server portfolio, Lenovo is ushering in a new era of large-scale edge automation and management. ThinkEdge portfolio innovations enable customers to compute data anywhere and leverage The power of AI.”
Unlocking Intelligence at the Edge
Modern edge infrastructure is unlocking data intelligence to help solve humanity’s greatest challenges in remote places around the world. The old world city of Barcelona is being transformed into one of the world’s smartest cities, with a network of Lenovo ThinkEdge servers powering its award-winning 5G infrastructure.
Pick up your smartphone near Barcelona’s picturesque Sagrada Familia and a tourist video will instantly play on the screen, while in the city’s glamorous Concepcio market a personal shopper looks through high-tech augmented reality glasses Play food recommendations directly.
As the deployment continues, Lenovo ThinkEdge servers are deployed in street cabinets across the city, powering artificial intelligence to improve emergency response, public safety and accessibility.
Purpose-built to meet the unique challenges of remote environments, the rugged ThinkEdge portfolio leverages Lenovo’s ThinkShield security features to keep data safe with the industry’s most modern and rigorous security measures, such as enhanced physical and network tamper detection and protection against Locked border for unauthorized access. The servers can also withstand Barcelona’s hot summer temperatures and cold winters.
In the future, these edge servers could help manage traffic better, sending information from traffic lights to cars, warning them when they’re about to turn red, and helping them drive fuel-efficiently.
Enable large-scale edge deployments
As edge computing demands grow, the new Lenovo Open Cloud Automation (LOC-A) 2.6 dramatically simplifies a process that used to require weeks of manual work. LOC-A automates the mass deployment of ThinkEdge clients and servers in minutes, eliminating the need for manual resources and potential human error. With LOC-A 2.6, Lenovo ThinkEdge servers can be shipped directly to the desired edge location where they can be securely authenticated, activated, and remotely registered for faster time to value.
“When it comes to edge computing, there are different variables that need to be addressed. At Insight Enterprises, we often help customers deploy systems in remote locations where space is limited, difficult to is a distributed environment, often thousands, if not tens of thousands. To help our customers scale edge solutions, we need enough computing power to support many different workloads, and the tools and logistics to effectively That’s why we chose Lenovo as our edge technology partner,” said Juan Orlandini, Chief Architect and Distinguished Engineer at Insight.
LOC-A automatically and remotely updates the firmware of edge devices, then installs and configures all platform components such as operating systems and cloud software. Previously, administrators had to inflexibly preload software at the factory, or go through the logistical complexity of installing software images one at a time in a staging area. With LOC-A 2.6, edge devices can be installed with one-click setup with minimal downtime, provide immediate value through simple and efficient operations, and enable fast computation and insights from data from global sources without delay . LOC-A 2.6 is able to power Lenovo’s ThinkEdge SE10, SE30, SE50, SE70, SE350 and SE450 server portfolio.
Transform business outcomes anytime, anywhere
The Lenovo ThinkEdge portfolio offers a full range of client and server edge infrastructure solutions, software and services. The new ThinkEdge SE10 client devices powered by Intel Atom processors convert analog measurements such as temperature, lighting and humidity into digital data that can then be analyzed for insights and action.
The ThinkEdge SE10’s compact and rugged design is optimized for analog data processing and fits anywhere customers need it, including retail locations, manufacturing facilities, and smart buildings. With ThinkEdge, SE10, businesses can reduce food waste, automate sorting and handling, improve inventory management and improve self-service or security features throughout their operations. From extreme temperatures to the most constrained spaces, the SE10 is designed to be the most feature-rich device in the ThinkEdge portfolio and offers industry-specific designs, including the more rugged ThinkEdge SE10-i.
Lenovo’s fully integrated edge business also offers a range of new support services, including Lenovo’s Edge Data Management Workshop and AI Innovators Program. Partnering with Lenovo, enterprises can take advantage of an extensive ecosystem of expert consultants trained to help customers identify clear deployment paths and enable faster edge deployments to scale.
Offering a complete portfolio of edge servers, AI-ready storage and solutions, Lenovo products are also available as a service through Lenovo TruScale, which can easily scale workloads from the edge to the cloud in a consumption-based model. — trade arab news agency
