Etihad Airways appoints Emirati chef to create iftar meals

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has appointed Emirati chef Khaled Alsaadi to combine authentic Emirati recipes with modern cooking techniques and local ingredients to create popular Ramadan dishes.

Turky Alhammadi, Head of Product and Hospitality, Etihad Airways, said: “Our ongoing collaboration with Chef Khaled combines his culinary skills with unique contemporary interpretations of local dishes, hand in hand with our culinary design team. We want our guests to enjoy this specially curated menu during their Ramadan flights. We look forward to welcoming our guests and encourage everyone traveling with Etihad Airways to try these Ramadan specials.”

Etihad Airways’ regular hot meal service will be complemented by Iftar onboard, with guests enjoying dishes including crispy snapper in saffron curry, lamb shank in black lime sauce, lentil soup, Chaami and beetroot salad, Machboos chicken ciabatta sandwich, Delicacies such as Aseeda cheesecake, saffron creme and batheeta crumble are among the delights.

A range of bespoke recipes will be available online or by scanning the QR code at the bottom of the on-board menu, allowing passengers to recreate Etihad’s unique in-flight meals at home.

Etihad Airways’ Ramadan menu will be available to guests in all cabins on selected flights simultaneously during Iftar time. This includes flights to and from the Gulf countries and flights to Jeddah during Ramadan to cater for Umrah groups.

Chef Khaled Alsaadi said: “It is an absolute honor to be working again with Etihad Airways’ culinary design team, a unique collaboration that allows me to showcase modern Emirati cuisine to international guests traveling on the national airline of the UAE. During Ramadan of travelers crave a nutritious iftar meal, and I wanted to bring the essence of Etihad cuisine to Etihad travelers, giving them a taste of the local flavors and leaving a lasting impression on their taste buds.”

The Etihad Ramadan experience begins at Abu Dhabi International Airport’s lounge, which will also offer Ramadan dishes and beverages, as well as a dedicated prayer room.

Passengers breaking their fast before takeoff or just before landing will be given takeaway bags filled with dates, drinks and snacks.

The airline’s inflight entertainment system, the E-box, will be updated with curated Ramadan content, as well as recordings of the Quran and Qibla are readily available on board. – trade arab news agency
