Lahore, April 8 (PTI) Pakistani authorities on Saturday arrested eight terrorists allegedly affiliated with the outlawed Pakistani Taliban Movement (TTP) and Islamic State (IS) in three different cities in the province, The weapons and explosives in their possession were also seized, police said.
The arrests followed 21 intelligence operations conducted by the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) with the police in different parts of the province.
“The Punjab Counter Terrorist Department (CTD) in Punjab on Saturday arrested eight terrorists from Lahore and three other cities in Punjab province suspected of being involved in the banned TTP and the so-called Islamic State (IS),” a CTD spokesman said.
He said the terrorists seized weapons, explosives and other prohibited items from them.
“Also 2.53 grams of explosives, 1 IED, 1 hand grenade, 3.5ft Prima Card, 15ft protection fuse, 4 detonators, 3 mobile phones, prohibited literary organizations and cash amounts have been taken from the terrorists’ possession Take it back,” he said.
The spokesman said the terrorists planned to target important facilities and other places of worship.
The CTD has registered six cases against arrested terrorists in Lahore, Gujranwala, DG Khan and Bahawalpur and transferred them to an unknown location for interrogation.
The spokesman said 402 grooming operations were carried out this week with the help of local police and security agencies.
