New job listings for developers Hangar 13 hint Mafia 5 May be in early production stages. The description of the job posting on LinkedIn alludes to a previous report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier that the developers wanted to give the green light to Mafia 4’s sequel.
Early Mafia 5 production will avoid the mistakes Hangar 13 made in the past
Hangar 13 is currently looking to fill the slot executive producer at his studio in Brighton, UK. The producer will be responsible for “a key franchise” and “play an important role in the successful delivery of a major new game, including post-launch content and future franchise planning.”
The game is still unannounced, so it may not have any connection to the Mafia series. That said, Schreyer reports May 2022 Hangar 13 president Nick Baynes aims to “green light a sequel to Nero when it’s in development,” and (Project) Nero is the codename for the next Mafia game. That way, when Mafia 4 ends, its team can remain intact instead of being embarrassingly displaced after the game ends–a mistake Hangar 13 has made in the past.
Based on what we know so far about Mafia 4 (or whatever the next Mafia game will be called), it’s reportedly a prequel Set in Sicily in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the story will follow the Don Salieri family. According to last year’s reportthe release date is still “a few years away,” meaning we could see it arrive in 2024 or 2025.
