Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technologies (MoIAT), in partnership with ADNOC and the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), has announced CLIMATE TECH UAE.

The first forum of its kind will be held at the Abu Dhabi Energy Center on 10-11 May 2023. The forum, which will take place during the UAE Year of Sustainable Development, will drive accelerated efforts to reduce emissions by at least 43 percent by 2030, according to a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). More than 1,000 global policymakers, CEOs, experts, academics, technology leaders, pioneer disruptors and investors will gather at the forum to foster dialogue and collaboration on disruptive innovations and economic opportunities to accelerate decarbonization across all sectors.

His Excellency Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chair-designate of COP28, said: “As stated in the latest IPCC report, the science behind climate change is crystal clear. The race. We have only a small chance of a massive course correction and gear shift, and we must act now to deliver on the four key pillars of climate finance, human capital, policy and technology.

“Meeting the world’s rapidly growing energy needs while substantially reducing emissions is one of the most complex challenges humanity has ever faced. With technological progress at an inflection point, we must act urgently to develop and deploy these innovations to drive low-carbon solutions solutions and boost economic development. To achieve this, we need greater collaboration and the UAE Climate Technology Conference provides a unique opportunity to convene industry leaders and policy carbon and future-proof.”

UAE CLIMATE TECH builds on the country’s legacy of climate leadership and practical and advanced climate solutions. The UAE has been a major investor in climate action, with an approach supported by ADNOC’s $15 billion allocation to low-carbon solutions, new energy and decarbonization technologies. Masdar’s goal is to achieve 100 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

The UAE Climate Technology Conference ahead of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) will present technology, innovation and investment opportunities while showcasing a range of technologies including carbon capture, artificial intelligence, robotics, digitalisation, hydrogen Energy, alternative fuels, and new low-carbon energy solutions for oil and gas and hard-to-abate industries, with some 60 to 100 companies, many of whom will set foot in the UAE for the first time.

The event will also highlight the UAE’s efforts to spearhead the adoption and development of technologies to accelerate decarbonization and create the green industries of the future, including climate-critical industries such as renewable energy, hydrogen energy, climate-smart agriculture and STEM education.

As the UAE achieves its Net Zero 2050 strategic initiative, MoIAT is developing a strategy to encourage companies in the country to improve production methods to incorporate decarbonization and incentivize the creation of new businesses that prioritize decarbonization.

MoIAT’s initiatives and partnerships in this area include the Technology Transformation Programme, the Industrial Technology Transformation Index (ITTI), green financing in partnership with the UAE Development Bank, the Industrial Sustainability Alliance, and raising awareness of green regulations and standards.

About the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology

The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) was established in July 2020 to increase the contribution of the industrial sector to the UAE’s GDP and promote sustainable industrial development. The ministry was formed by the merger of the Office of the Minister of State for Advanced Technologies, the Emirates Standardization and Metrology Authority (ESMA) and the industry division of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.

The MoIAT is responsible for formulating policies, laws and programs to attract foreign direct investment, increase national value addition, support entrepreneurship, create jobs, attract talents, improve the skills of national cadres, promote exports and increase the competitiveness of UAE-made products. To achieve these goals, MoIAT has established an advanced national quality infrastructure system.

MoIAT leverages its expertise, capabilities and resources to strengthen the country’s industrial ecosystem by facilitating the establishment of industrial zones, promoting the adoption of advanced technologies and the integration of Fourth Industrial Revolution solutions, and promoting the development of priority sectors and industries for the future. The Ministry’s work contributes to the country’s efforts to build a diversified, knowledge-based economy and achieve industrial self-sufficiency.

The Ministry is a key enabler of the UAE’s 2050 Net Zero Emissions Strategic Initiative and plays an important role in the country’s COP28 agenda.
