New Netflix Series Stars David Choe beefwith Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, has faced new scrutiny for a segment that resurfaced in 2014 from his previous podcast, where he joked about non-consensual sexual encounters.
In the clip, Choe can be heard describing how he forced a masseuse to perform indecent acts. Despite admitting his actions were “rape”, Choe insists he is not a criminal.
Additionally, in response to the re-emerging clip, Choe has taken steps to prevent it from being shared on social media, using a copyright infringement notice to have the clip removed from Twitter.
Choe claimed his comments were made in jest and not based on real-life experiences. In 2017, the actor shared a post to defend himself:
“I relayed a story just to shock and make it feel like I violated a woman. I said those things, but I didn’t do those things. It didn’t happen. I have zero history of sexual assault. For my past words give I apologize for the hurt anyone has caused.. I was a patient at the height of my mental illness and have spent the last 3 years healing myself in a mental health facility and dedicating my life to helping and Heal others through love and action.”
