As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, UAE residents are now looking forward to the first long weekend of the year to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. Diwan Al Amiri of Umm Al Quwain has issued a notice regarding the Eid al-Fitr holidays for the Emirate’s local sector in 1444 AH this year.

The notification stated that the holiday will start on the 29th of Ramadan and last until the 3rd of Shawwal, when the new moon of Shawwal will be observed and Eid al-Fitr will be declared in the country.

Employees will return to work on the 4th of Ramadan, and according to the Gregorian calendar date, all employees in the local department will return to the prescribed official working hours, which will be reduced during Ramadan.

The UAE’s Lunar Observation Committee will meet on Thursday 20 April to determine whether Eid al-Fitr will fall on Friday 21 April or Saturday 22 April. If Eid falls on a Friday, residents will have four days off from Thursday to Sunday. If on Saturday, the break will last five days – Thursday to Monday.

The UAE has appealed to all Muslims in the country to see the new moon on Thursday night (April 20), which corresponds to Ramadan 29 (1444 AH) in the Islamic calendar, and to report to the relevant authorities.
