Solomon Islands opens embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Solomon Islands is preparing to open a new embassy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates this year.

Prime Minister Sogavare said that Abu Dhabi is a strategic location for diplomatic missions and a regional hub for the Gulf region, North and East Africa, where many large companies, including SMEs, have established regional offices and operations across the world. .

“The government is committed to establishing a diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi in 2023, which is an opportunity to strengthen our bilateral relationship and further explore more cooperation in the Gulf region.”

Prime Minister Sogavare stressed that this is a priority for the Solomon Islands and crucial to strengthening SI-UAE cooperation centered on mutual respect and admiration.

He added that the basis of SI-UAE cooperation is to ensure mutual benefit by cooperating with each other in areas of mutual interest.

Solomon Islands thanks the UAE for its assistance in the Pacific Partnership Program and other developments at the bilateral and international levels. Further opportunities for collaboration include renewable energy, tourism investment, aviation, trade and labor mobility.

Prime Minister Sogavare congratulated the UAE on successfully hosting the Dubai World Expo. The theme of “Connecting Minds – Creating the Future” was realized for the Solomon Islands by establishing a trading partnership, securing a distributor for the export of canned tuna from the Solomon Islands. This is just the beginning of more opportunities and connections for business, trade and investment.

The Prime Minister added that Solomon Islands is keen to explore labor mobility collaborations with the UAE in the unskilled and semi-skilled sectors for seasonal or short-term labor mobility opportunities.

Congratulating the UAE on its readiness to host the upcoming COP28, Prime Minister Sogavare said there are increased investment opportunities in the renewable energy sector, as well as transitioning the land and sea transport sectors to low-carbon systems.

His Excellency Abdullah Al Subousi expressed his gratitude to the Solomon Islands for their warm welcome, the first of many more meaningful visits to the Solomon Islands.

“The UAE will strengthen dialogue and cooperation with the Solomon Islands at all levels and our relationship will continue to grow and develop,” His Excellency Abdullah Subsi stressed.

He also conveyed Prime Minister Sogavare’s invitation to attend this year’s COP28, hosted by the UAE, as a guest of honor.
