Eid al-Fitr is just around the corner and millions of UAE residents will be traveling for it. Therefore, expats are advised to carry their Emirates ID when flying abroad to avoid delays at the airport. Let us tell you all about the necessity of Emirates IDs and how to get them.

Where to carry Emirates ID?

UAE residents will carry their Emirates ID to their visa-on-arrival destination. If you do not have a visa in your passport, you must present your Emirates ID at the airport.

This ID is now used as proof of residence. An updated version of the card contains details that can be used to print on the visa stamp. The data on the document can be read at the immigration counters of all airports.

This ID is a mandatory identification card issued by the UAE government for UAE citizens and residents. It is used for:

  • access to government services
  • Vote in elections to the Federal National Assembly
  • Travel documents as a UAE citizen
  • As a legal document for passing immigration through eGates and smart gates at UAE airports.

To apply for an Emirates ID, you will need to check the Federal Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security website – ICP.

  • Visit one of ICP’s service centers to provide biometric details.
  • Check the ICP website for the application process, required documents and fees.
  • Track your application.

Get within 24 hours

Federal Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security has a service called Fawri. Provide express service within 24 hours. Expired card renewals, lost or damaged cards, and first-time registrations can all be collected. Having said that, it is important to note that expedited services can only be used by expatriate residents who are not GCC nationals with a replacement ID card.

Also, it is important to note that those who want to get an UAE ID within 24 hours will need to pay for the expedited service. In addition, the ICP website offers different fee structures for the Services.
