Brie Larson bakes shame in 1950s science series

Brie Larson stars as the talented Elizabeth Zouter on Apple TV+’s highly anticipated “Chemistry Lesson.”

Based on the popular BookTok novel of the same name by Bonnie Garmus, “Chemistry Lesson” stars Larson as Elizabeth, a scientist whose dreams of running a laboratory are put on hold by the patriarchal society of the 1950s. When Elizabeth finds herself fired from her lab, she takes a job as a TV cooking show host and sets out to teach a nation of neglected housewives and men who suddenly listen and not just recipes.

Academy Award winner Larson co-produces the series with Academy Award nominee Suzanne Grant (“The Incredible”). Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan (“Black Socca,” “Teacher”) are executive producers for Aggregate Films, which produces the series for Apple Studios. Natalie Sandy’s executive co-produces with six-time Emmy-nominated showrunner Lee Eisenberg (“WeCrashed”) through Piece of Work Entertainment. Louise Shore also serves as executive producer.

supporting role pullman recently appeared in Eliza Scanlen’s critically acclaimed Sundance film The Starling Girl, and Best Picture nominee Top Gun: Maverick. At the same time, the heroine Larson will appear in “fast x” and the upcoming MCU series “Marvel,” repeat She played Captain Marvel.

Larson reflects on Harper’s Bazaar The cover story is about delving into the “Chemistry Lesson” era series filmed in Los Angeles. Larson said that details, from 1950s cars to costumes, made the show all-encompassing on set.

“The only time I was myself was when I fell asleep in the car. Two weeks later, I literally had to sit there and say, ‘My name is Bree. It’s 2022. There’s downtown LA right outside the door, and no one knows it’s here. What happened. Nobody cared,'” Larson said.

Showrunner Eisenberg said of Larson: “It’s shocking that you’re talking to her, and then the director moves into action, and all of a sudden, you just see her eyes change, and she’s a different person.”

“Chemistry Lessons” will premiere on Apple TV+ in Fall 2023.
