Dubai Marathon to be held in January 2024

[ad_1]

The Dubai Marathon, the Middle East’s first and oldest international marathon, will host its 23rd edition on 7 January 2024 following an agreement with the Dubai Sports Council.

The marathon will once again be held in the 4km, 10km and the classic 42.195km marathon and registration for participants is now open through the official website.

The news comes just weeks after the Dubai Marathon returned to the UAE sports calendar for the first time since January 2020.

“We are grateful for the support of the Dubai Sports Council and we now look forward to working with relevant government organizations to deliver an event that once again brings elite and amateur runners to the heart of the city,” said race director Peter Connaughton. .

The 2024 Dubai Marathon will once again be held with the support of the Dubai Sports Council, with organizers also working with Dubai Police, Dubai RTA and Dubai Municipality throughout the year to define routes for all three races.

“The Dubai Marathon is one of the biggest annual events in Dubai and is eagerly awaited by runners of all ages and abilities, both within the UAE and abroad,” said Saeed Hareeb, Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council.

“We will continue to work closely with the organizers to deliver another memorable event and we are currently in the planning stages for next year.”

It was a memorable start to the marathon year for race sponsor adidas, with adidas elite athlete Abdisa Tola from Ethiopia and his sister-in-law Dera Dida claiming the men’s and women’s marathon titles respectively.

Tola – brother of marathon world champion and 2017 Dubai champion Tamirat Tola – set a time of 2:05:42 in his marathon debut, while Dida set a new personal best of 2:21:11.

It was an excellent start to his marathon career for the 22-year-old Tola, whose winning time was only surpassed by brother Tamirat when he won the marathon at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in the United States last July 6 seconds.

“Once again the Elites showed how comfortable they are running on the fast and flat roads of Dubai and we are delighted with the results,” Connerton added. “We congratulate both runners and we look forward to seeing them compete again in future Dubai Marathons.” – trade arab news agency
