ABU DHABI, 26th April, 2023 (WAM) — Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Tahnoun bin said Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler and National Security Advisor of Abu Dhabi, the 2023 Crisis and Emergency Management Summit, CEMS, is scheduled for May Held September 10, 2023.
The National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Agency (NCEMA) made the announcement at a press conference today. With the theme of “Abu Dhabi 2023”, this summit will bring together emergency, crisis and disaster management experts from all over the world. It aims to enhance preparedness, encourage global cooperation, and explore the future of emergency and crisis management amidst increasing threats and risks.
Mariam Yaed Al Qubaisi, Official Spokesperson for CEMS – Abu Dhabi 2023, said it was a pleasure to host emergency and crisis management experts from around the world for the two-day summit. She said the event will highlight the UAE’s role in strengthening international cooperation in the field, discussing the future of emergency management and integrating new technologies such as artificial intelligence to reduce the impact of disasters and crises.
Al Qubaisi praised the UAE’s wise leadership in promoting modern technologies in emergency and crisis management, as evidenced by the country’s success in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. She added that organizing the summit is part of NCEMA’s efforts to improve the UAE’s emergency response and maintain its security and stability.
The summit will bring together eminent experts and officials related to emergency and crisis management from national, regional and global entities. It aims to discuss the grand challenges facing the field, adopt global trends, and apply international standards and practices.
The summit’s main agenda included discussions on non-traditional management of emergencies and crises, preparedness for unexpected crises, developing the next generation of leaders, globalization of preparedness and response, and community partnerships in emergency and crisis management. Over six sessions, subtopics such as anticipating the future of emergencies and crises, behavioral change and its impact on community preparedness, and the culture of volunteerism in emergencies will be discussed.
More than 20 senior officials and renowned experts with practical experience and academic expertise in crisis and disaster management from more than 10 countries will participate in the event. The summit aims to highlight the importance of developing the emergency, crisis and disaster management industry to meet future challenges.
The summit’s list of keynote speakers includes a range of prominent leaders, influential figures, academics, lawmakers and senior officials from national, regional and global institutions related to security, emergencies and crisis management. Speakers included Loretta Hieber Girardet, Director, Risk Knowledge, Monitoring and Capacity Development Branch, United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR); Dr. Maoxing Wu, Director, BCM Institute; Dr. Christopher Ankersen, Clinical Professor of Global Affairs; James Morris, Dean, Rabdan School, Adnan Dr. Alwan, Retired Major General, Crisis and Emergency Management Specialist; and many more.
The Crisis and Emergency Management Summit (CEMS) 2023 is a global platform to strengthen partnerships, consolidate international cooperation and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of emergency, crisis and disaster management. CEMS will discuss the most prominent global challenges and trends in this field, including mechanisms established to anticipate future risks, aim to strengthen global responses to cross-border crises and emergencies through international cooperation approaches, and strengthen national reputations, highlighting national capabilities , professional cadres and the UAE model of excellence in emergency, crisis and disaster management.
