Sharjah: The Sharjah Animation Conference (SAC) will be held at the Sharjah Expo Center from 3-5 May, featuring exclusive workshops featuring professionals from Disney, Netflix, Pixar, Ubisoft, Activision and more .
Workshops will cover various areas of animation such as drawing anime-style characters, creating mechas and anime-style heroes, and more.
The conference will provide a platform for industry professionals and enthusiasts to share skills and knowledge to meet the growing global demand for animation. SAC is said to be the first conference of its kind in the Arab region, born out of a partnership between the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) and Italy’s Bergamo Animation Festival (BAD).
The workshop lineup will cover a wide range of topics including character design, storyboarding and other areas of animation, led by award-winning experts who have produced major releases for Disney, Pixar, Netflix and Ubisoft, giving attendees direct access to the best in the industry .

Attendees can learn from director Takahiro Yoshimatsu, known for creating popular anime such as Dragon Ball Z and Hunter X Hunter, in a “How to Draw Anime Style” workshop. Yoshimatsu will guide participants through theoretical and practical lessons on body proportions, facial detail and line style.
In the Characters with Personality workshop, they can learn from Annie Award-winning 2D animator and designer Sandro Cleuzo. He will guide participants through the entire process of character creation.
Film and storyboard artist John Nevarez, who worked on the Academy Award-winning Coco, will lead a workshop called “Let’s Talk About Story Moments,” which explores the art of visual storytelling.
In the “Bringing Characters to Life: Designer Tips” workshop, attendees can learn from character designer Wouter Tulp, who has worked at Netflix, Paramount Pictures, and Sony Pictures. Tulp will teach participants the techniques and principles of creating characters with “dynamism and personality.”
Creative Director Andrea Bozzetto will host the “Studio Bozzetto: Storyboard and Creativity” workshop and reveal the creative process behind storyboarding for animation.
For “How to Draw Mecha Super Robots and Anime-Style Heroes,” character designer and producer Mamoru Yokota; known for his work on Death Note, Naruto, and One Piece, will discuss design, Personality traits and how to portray a character’s signature moves.
The Majid Workshop on Majid Kids TV will be led by experienced professionals and aims to inspire creativity in young people, whether they aspire to be animators or just love watching cartoons.
Activision Blizzard Artist Manager, Recruiter and Creative Robin Linn will give attendees insight into how to impress potential clients in his workshop, “Crafting the Perfect Portfolio.”
