Japanese space technology pioneer ALE announces plans to launch next SKY CANVAS satellite into orbit and invites science enthusiasts to join new SKY CANVAS community club
Space technology company ALE today announced plans to launch the next SKY CANVAS satellite into orbit, an important step forward for the world’s first artificial meteor project. This is the first step in ALE’s ambition to usher in a new era of sustainable space entertainment over the next decade, advance the global space business, and advance essential climate science research and education.
The new ALE-3 satellite, scheduled for launch in 2024, will collect climate information on the mesosphere, the layer of Earth’s atmosphere that lies directly above the stratosphere and below the thermosphere. Atmospheric data collected in the mesosphere has the potential to provide valuable new insights into Earth’s climate and weather.
The latest news about ALE-3 follows the launch of ALE’s SKY CANVAS Community Club, a dynamic platform dedicated to fostering knowledge exchange and actively sharing ideas about space, astronomy and science. The SKY CANVAS Community Club will provide a place for members to stay informed about exciting developments in ALE, including the Meteor Experience, with more exciting benefits to be announced in due course.
“The mesosphere is an important part of Earth’s climate system. In fact, the mesosphere is where the ozone that protects us from harmful ultraviolet radiation is produced, and where atmospheric tides and large-scale atmospheric motions occur,” said University of Glasgow Emerging Space Technologies Research. Assistant Dr. Gilles Bailet explained.
“Investigating the mesosphere is critical to the fight against climate change, and SKY CANVAS is uniquely capable of bringing very valuable large multipoint measurements through its artificial meteor showers. ALE has successfully completed two SKY CANVAS satellite launches (ALE-1 and ALE-2), placing two satellites into orbit in January and December 2019, respectively. With the next SKY CANVAS satellite launch (ALE-3) in 2024 and the first commercial service of SKY CANVAS scheduled for 2025, ALE hopes to inspire A new generation of space and science enthusiasts around the world.
