Rome [Italy]April 30 (ANI): Italian authorities and OpenAI have announced that access to the ChatGPT chatbot has been restored after the company “addressed or clarified” concerns raised by Italy’s data protection agency, Al Jazeera reported.

OpenAI removed ChatGPT from the Italian market last month after the Italian Data Protection Authority, also known as Garante, temporarily banned ChatGPT and launched an investigation into the artificial intelligence program’s alleged violation of privacy laws.

According to Al Jazeera, the Italian Data Protection Authority described its action as temporary “until ChatGPT respects privacy”.

The regulator added that OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, lacked the legal basis to “collect and store large amounts of personal data for the purpose of ‘training’ the platform to operate the underlying algorithms”.

It also referred to a data breach that occurred on March 20, which the US company attributed to a glitch. User conversations and payment information were exposed, Al Jazeera reported.

Chatbots are computer programs that use vast amounts of online data to process and recreate discussions with human-like users.

ChatGPT, which stands for Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer, launched in November 2022 as a prototype powered by a machine learning model that mimics the function of the human brain. (Arnie)
