Lahore, May 2 (PTI) Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan told the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday that a third assassination attempt against him has been planned and is trying to drop all political cases against him, He said regular court appearances would jeopardize his safe life.
Khan has filed a petition with the LHC asking it to drop all 121 cases registered against him in various cities of the country for crimes including treason, blasphemy, committing and inciting violence, and terrorism.
According to the petition, the cases were brought for political reasons.
Khan, 71, appeared at the Large Hadron Collider under high security conditions. During the trial, he asked the court to allow him to speak.
The court granted his request.
Khan, head of the Pakistan Justice Movement (PTI) party, told the court his life was in danger.
“Constant presence in court will put my life in danger. I have survived two assassinations – one in Wazirabad, Punjab, and the other in Islamabad, where the ISI is in charge of the building,” said a court officials said. Tell PTI to quote Khan.
“They (referring to those in power) wanted to kill me and the third assassination was about to happen,” Khan told the court.
He said he had not had a single case against him in his 70 years of life, all of which were brought after he was sacked as prime minister last April.
On May 5, the five-member LHC bench, headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, directed Khan to join police investigations into the cases, the official said.
“The court did not accept Khan’s request to appear in court via video link for the police investigation. However, the court will resume on May 8,” the official said.
Earlier, Khan claimed he had identified a total of “six people” in the country who wanted to kill him in a video.
“Out of the six, three were the ones I named in the FIR following the attempted assassination of me in Punjab last November,” Khan said on Thursday.
Khan blamed Prime Minister Sheikh Baz Sharif, Interior Minister Ranathana Ullah and Khan after he was shot in the leg at a rally in the Wazirabad district, about 150 kilometers from Lahore, on November 3. A plot to assassinate him was hatched by a senior ISI officer, Major General Faisal Nasser
“Minister of Home Affairs (Sanaullah) said my life was threatened by foreign agencies. Let me make it clear to the entire country that the only threat to my life came from the 3 people I named after the assassination attempt in Wazirabad. Same 3, + 3 I am in More found in video statement trying to remove me from ICT judicial complex on March 18,” Khan said in a series of tweets.
“If any attempt is made on my life now, these people will be responsible for it. Just as they tried to blame the Wazirabad attack on religious extremists – it was just a smokescreen – they are now trying to create another deception of foreign institutions ,” He said.
