ADAFSA showcases developments in Abu Dhabi’s animal wealth sector at Middle East Poultry Expo

ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) participated in the Middle East Poultry Expo in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 1st to 3rd May. Their aim is to showcase the progress Abu Dhabi is making towards sustainable agricultural development in the emirate and highlight their role in improving food production and quality by showcasing their ongoing research and projects. They also aim to identify new opportunities and challenges in the poultry industry and learn from international experience and expertise to support their efforts to achieve food and biosecurity.

At a meeting held concurrently with the exhibition, researchers from the Authority presented two working papers. One of the papers submitted by Saeed Al-Yamahi discussed adenoviruses infecting broiler chickens. The document examines various detection and control methods, as well as the agency’s efforts to eliminate the virus and ensure biosecurity.

Mohammad Omar Barshid from the Authority’s Livestock Division presented a working paper on poultry production development in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and investment opportunities and areas, stating that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi includes 29 major poultry production commercial farms in addition to About 300 other small producer farms.

With increasing consumer demand for poultry meat, significant opportunities exist for the expansion of this key industry, which can benefit from excellent infrastructure, government interest and support, and availability of poultry industry experts.

ADAFSA regards Poultry Expo Middle East as one of the most important exhibitions in the poultry industry. It provides an important platform to showcase ADAFSA’s initiatives to develop the livestock sector, especially poultry production. In addition, the exhibition provides an opportunity to introduce producers to innovative services aimed at increasing production efficiency and strengthening biosecurity systems.

As the government agency responsible for agriculture, food safety, food safety and biosecurity in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, ADAFSA is eager to participate in exhibitions and conferences relevant to its interests and role. This engagement allows ADAFSA to contribute to its efforts to achieve sustainable agricultural development and improve food production and quality, while also raising awareness of its critical role in ensuring biosecurity in the region.

By participating in Middle East Poultry Expo, ADAFSA aims to achieve several goals. First, it seeks to acquire knowledge of the latest technologies and biosecurity controls relevant to the poultry industry in the Middle East. Additionally, ADAFSA would like to explore potential collaboration and partnership opportunities with other participants of the show. In addition, the exhibition provides an opportunity to exchange information, promote scientific research in the field, and provide the Authority’s researchers and cadres with the opportunity to benefit from scientific programmes. The program includes attending lectures, seminars and discussions, interacting with experts and researchers in the field and learning about their experiences and perspectives while exchanging ideas with them.

ADAFSA is responsible for developing the agriculture and food sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in a sustainable manner, ensuring the realization of the Abu Dhabi Government’s vision. The purpose of this is to enhance food and biosecurity and ensure the health of animals and plants.

It is also the competent authority for agriculture, food safety and food and biosecurity in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, with multiple tasks and responsibilities including developing policies and strategies to enhance food safety, developing a sustainable agricultural sector, ensuring food safety through innovative services and modern technology, directing investments and developing plans, and initiating programs and initiatives aimed at increasing the contribution of the agricultural sector to the GDP of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

In addition, ADAFSA is responsible for issuing the necessary approvals and licenses for agriculture and food related activities, as well as supervising and inspecting farms, food businesses, agricultural production requirements, and the import and export of food and agricultural materials traded within the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The authority also oversees the control of pesticide residues and veterinary drugs in accordance with current legislation.
