Daytime talk shows less affected by writers strike

Writers Guild of America Strike Begins Tuesday IImmediately impacts most late night talk shows as well as “Saturday Night Live” and other topical scripted shows, but less impact on daytime shows that typically don’t have WGA writers.

ABC’s “The View” and its syndicated Disney stablemate “Living With Kelly and Mark” aired new episodes Tuesday and will continue to do so, The Hollywood Reporter explainBoth shows are largely unscripted, and while “several” writers for “The View” are in the WGA, the industry publication said the producers won’t be letting other employees write in their place.

Additionally, “The View” and syndicated “Tamron Hall” were produced by ABC News. Most broadcast journalists and related media professionals are affiliated with the joint union SAG-AFTRA (Side Actors Guild-United Television and Radio Artists of America), which includes a no-strike clause in its current contracts.

Sinking – AFTRA Announce On Saturday, “should the WGA deem it necessary to strike to strike a fair deal for its members, while SAG-AFTRA cannot strike with them at this time, we will be there to support and stand by them.”

However, the CBS panel discussion show “The Talk” used WGA writers. Newsday confirmed that filming will not begin this week, but will air previously recorded episodes already announced: actors Shailene Woodley, Jack Whitehall and Jaime Camil will air Wednesday; actor Rashida Jones, guest co-host Shemar Moore and Thursday Asian American Pacific Islander Month celebrations; Friday, with actor Terry Crews, science advocate Bill Nye and social media stars Takara “Ling” Holmes Lawinsson and Yinka “Lamb” Lamborghini.

The previously produced new series “The Talk” will run for part of next week. CBS has yet to announce the lineup for those shows.

“The Drew Barrymore Show” has finished production for this season.

The WGA is seeking a higher minimum wage, more ample writers’ rooms, shorter exclusivity contracts and a revision of remaining payments to account for the content they write on the streaming platform.

The Union of Motion Picture and Television Producers, a trade association that bargains on behalf of studios and production houses, “generously increased pay for screenwriters and improved streaming residuals.”
