Donald Trump says ‘if I were president, war in Ukraine would be over in a day’

[ad_1]

The comments were made as he landed in Shannon, starting a two-day visit to his resort in Doonbeg, Co Clare.

Mr Trump also said Meghan Markle had “disrespect” Queen Elizabeth and that he was surprised Prince Harry had been invited to the coronation of his father King Charles after his “terrible” book and TV interview.

Mr Trump told GB News’ Nigel Farage in an interview recorded during a visit to Scotland: “If I were president I would end this war [in Ukraine] in one day.

“It’s going to take 24 hours. I’ll get over it. It’s easy.

“That deal will be easy. A lot of it will be about money. This war has to stop. It’s a disaster.”

Trump said he “gets along very well” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding: “If it weren’t for the incompetence of this administration, Putin would never have been in Ukraine.

“Putin didn’t go in, was never mentioned, and I know him very well.”

Mr Trump reiterated his claim that China was behind the emergence of Covid-19, calling it a “gift” from Beijing.

“It came from Wuhan, I’ve said that from the beginning, I’ve said that from day one.

“I have a reason to say that, but it came from Wuhan. But the question is, did they do it on purpose or not?

“I think it’s incompetence. They screwed up, they’re suffering. And then they got it.

“They did hide it. Yes, they tried to hide it.”

Mr Trump said the Chinese government should pay compensation for the so-called virus leak, but added they would “never be able to pay” for the full loss to the international economy and population.

At the same time, he said that the current US President Joe Biden is not physically suitable for the job, and accused him of not attending King Charles’ coronation as an act of “disrespect”.

Mr Trump, who was defeated by Biden in the 2020 US presidential election, told GB News: “Actually, I don’t think he can do it physically.

“I think it’s hard for him to do it physically … come on for him.

“He’s got a lot going on and a lot of weird stuff happening. But of course he should be here as a representative of our country.

“I was surprised when I heard he wasn’t coming.” He added: “I think it’s very disrespectful that he didn’t (at the coronation).”

In a video that aired ahead of the interview, he suggested that Mr Biden would “sleep” at Saturday’s coronation, which Mr Biden’s wife would attend on his behalf.

On British politics, Trump said former prime minister Boris Johnson had “changed a lot during his tenure”, suggesting his Conservative government’s policies were “far left”.

He said the Conservatives were “really not staying conservative”.

“They’re going — I mean they’re really going far left,” he continued.

“It never made any sense. I say this as an insider looking, they’re on the far left. What are they doing?

“Now maybe Labor is leading, maybe they’re not. I don’t know who’s leading.

“But I can tell you they are ultimately not Conservative policy.”

Mr Trump also described some in the US government as “perverted, horrible” people who were “weaponizing” the justice system against him.

Mr. Trump was indicted in New York and faces 34 criminal charges related to alleged hush money payments to adult actress Stormy Daniels. He could also face criminal proceedings in Georgia for alleged criminal interference in the 2020 U.S. election.
