Music underscores Bay City’s growing statewide reputation as entertainment destination

[ad_1]

While you were enjoying last summer’s concerts and festivals, Mike Bacigalupo is adding artists and events to fill Bay City’s summer of 2023. This year will prove to be the busiest yet.

No stranger to the task, Bacigalupo not only helps Downtown Bay City, But approval for other promoters to hold other concerts in the city center, from a free film series at Wenona Park every Tuesday, all the way to the big weekend event, finalized each week-long event.

This year, in the concert announcement on March 8 Rock River Concert Seriesannounced Bacigalupo, “We’re going to do nine concerts this summer. Last year we did three.”

With strong sponsorship from local businesses and radio stations, the expanded season shows the progress the city has made in post-COVID-19 lockdown. The explosion of concert ticket purchases and the overwhelming success of the shows in 2022 has opened new doors for Bay City as it continues to expand as an event destination for people across the state.

Lineups are posted on the National Theater Events Calendar.

As in the past, summer’s big tickets include classic rock staples who are often present locally, as well as some fresh country artists offering fans new sounds.

“July 7th is Gabby Barrett and Ashley McBryde — country ladies,” Bacigalupo said in a recent phone interview. “Styx on July 8th, .38 Special on 21st, Here Comes the Mummy on 22nd, Riot V on August 4th, Riot V on August 5th, Larry McCray on August 18th, Joan Jett on August 19th And Blackhearts, it’s Warrant and Nelson with special guests, and ends August 26th with Paul Young, Tommy Tutone and Rick Springfield, who want to get back to Bay City.

The hard rock side is well represented by Saginaw’s own Todd Michael Hall and his band, Riot V, of which he’s been frontman since 2013. The night featured original and cover acts including After Six, Screaming Casanovas and Chasing Engel.

“In the Saginaw area, I’m best known as a member of the Harlet band, but we also released an album in 1994 called Pulling Teeth,” Hall said recently.

“I’ve been lucky enough to play with Riot all over the world,” added the Season 18 contender on the TV show The Voice. “We don’t play all the time, but we do about 25 shows a year. It’s harder to play in the central Michigan area because the rest of the band is from New York, New Jersey, and Texas. So when I get the chance to play in the area I was really excited about it.”

This summer, Grammy-nominated artist Larry McCray took the Bay City stage. After last year’s Grammy-nominated album “Blues Without You,” blues fans can finally see a local performance by the region’s national blues legend, Larry McCray. The event will open with a group of local original music artists including Robert Lee Revue, Scott Baker Band and Mike Brush Group. Blues, jazz and rock will mix and match throughout the day at Wheelz 104.5 and Kiss 107.1 events.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun this year,” McRae said when he returned home for his birthday in early April. “It sounds like a lot of my friends will be playing with me that day too. I hope to get the message out to all the music fans who want to see me in Bay City.”

Robert Lee (Bobby Balderrama of ? and Mysterians fame) recently returned to No. 1 on the Billboard charts with “I’ll Be The One” from his album “The Great Hall Of Smooth Jazz,” recorded with Le Sonic . His last summit was “96 Tears” in 1966.

“I’m working on my next single and will be recording with Le Sonic (again) in the fall,” Balderrama said. “It’s going to be a great time at Wenonah.”

Fans of funk and fun rock will rejoice in the return of The Mummy. They will once again take to the stage at Wenona Park. With special guest Saxsquatch.

.38 Special concert featuring local artist ADABOY! They will be promoting the single until their album is due to be released in 2024. All recorded in ADABOY’s Nashville! Starting with the just-released Time (Voices Run), they’ve been promoting the sounds they get from their Star Studio mixers.

“It’s great to have a national gig,” says vocals/guitarist Mike Thomas. “I’m so excited to be standing in front of all of our family and friends. It feels like a huge liftoff for Bay City’s very own ADABOY!”

Bacigalupo added that last August’s Rick Springfield/Men At Work/John Waite show had the largest audience in the Wenona Park show’s history.

Other local entertainment begins early in the season, including a local fundraiser for the McMath Brothers on May 21. Dubbed “A Benefit Concert for Mike and Scott McMath, Breathe Hope,” the event will feature A-list local cover bands, including a Jedi Mind Tour , The Rock Show, Stone Street Revival, Empty Canvas (The McMath Brothers Band), and encores from The Paul McCartney Show, which debuted at Wenona Park last year.

In addition to the National Theater event, there is another big country event coming up this year.

this Bay City Country Music Festival Jimmie Allen with special guest Alexandra Kay and local favorite Matt Ferranti at Wenonah Park on June 15, Mitchell Tenpenny with special guest Jon Langston and local country star Waylon Hanel on June 16, and June 17 Special guest Nelly. , the concert is his 6th annual country music festival.

As chairman of the Bay City Fireworks Festival committee, Earl asked me about my idea of bringing a hair band to Bay City overnight. idea.”

With availability, stage presence, popularity and budget in mind, Hairball John got to work. He will also host a tailgate party under the gazebo in Wenona Park that day.

“Working with Earl gave me insight into the business side that has always fascinated me,” he continued. “Firehouse still sound really good and deliver an engaging performance. They’re one of my favorite (groups) to interview because they’re very casual and friendly. Another attraction, Bacigalupo says, is Feet On The Street on the corner of 5th and Saginaw Streets. He just released the entertainment schedule for the area.
