Emirates and Etihad Airways have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand their interline agreement and offer more itinerary options for travelers visiting the UAE. The first-of-its-kind agreement between the two Emirates airlines aims to capitalize on the opportunity to boost tourism to the UAE from key source markets by allowing travelers to experience multiple destinations on a single itinerary.

This summer, customers of each airline will be able to buy a ticket to either Dubai or Abu Dhabi and return seamlessly from the other airport. The new agreement also provides a flexible one-stop ticketing service for travelers planning to explore the UAE, as well as convenient luggage drop-off.

During the initial phase of the expansion, each carrier will focus on attracting tourists to the UAE by developing inbound interline business from specific locations in Europe and China.

The Jaws Open arrangement will allow visitors to cover as much ground as possible when exploring Abu Dhabi, Dubai or any other emirate, saving time by not having to fly home by arriving at the airport.

Passengers traveling to the UAE can also opt for ‘multi-city flights’, choosing to travel from one city on both airlines’ network and then conveniently return to another point served by Emirates or Etihad Airways.

Emirates Chief Commercial Officer Adnan Kazim and Etihad Airways Chief Operating Officer Mohammad Al Bulooki sign the MoU at the Arabian Travel Market in the presence of Emirates President Sir Tim Clark and Etihad Airways CEO Antonoaldo Neves . with other senior representatives.

Sir Tim Clark, Emirates Airline President, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Etihad Airways again – this time to enable each airline to offer a whole new range of seamless travel options in and out of the UAE. Emirates “We and Etihad Airways are leveraging our strengths to expand our respective customer offerings and boost tourism in the UAE. We believe this new agreement provides a solid foundation for further growth opportunities between the two airlines, and we An example of commitment to the vision of continued diversification of the UAE’s economy.”

Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said: “We are delighted to partner with Emirates as we share our shared mission of supporting inbound tourism to the UAE and facilitating travel to our vibrant city. A partnership between two world-class airlines in the UAE tourism industry, our interline agreement will make it easier for our guests to experience the best of Abu Dhabi and Dubai on a single ticket, while promising whether they fly with Etihad or Emirates Aviation, both offer an extraordinary flying experience. It’s a win-win proposition for travelers to the UAE.”

The expanded interline partnership builds on the two airlines’ commitment to support the UAE government’s goals to boost tourism to the UAE and enhance the UAE’s status as a preferred global destination. Tourism is one of the key pillars of the UAE’s economy and is expected to contribute 5.4 percent of the country’s GDP, or AED116.1 billion (US$31.6 billion), by 2027, supporting more than one million jobs. *

This is the second time the two airlines have announced a partnership. In 2018, Emirates Group Security and Etihad Aviation Group (EAG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance aviation security, including the sharing of information and intelligence in areas of operations both inside and outside the UAE. Last year, Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding with the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism to increase the number of tourists traveling to the UAE capital from key source markets across the airline’s global network.
