The suspect was detained after searches by the East-Flemish Federal Judicial Police and an investigative judge specialized in terrorism in the West-Flemish provinces of Roeselare, Menen, Ostend, Wevelgem and Ghent, according to news reports.
“Seven people were deprived of their liberty and interrogated,” the federal prosecutor’s office said in a statement. According to Euronews, almost all of the suspects were Chechen nationals, staunch supporters of the so-called Islamic State. Three of the suspects hold Belgian nationality.
