Emirates News Agency – World Utilities Congress 2023 to galvanize utilities sector response to net-zero emissions ahead of COP28

ABU DHABI, 4th May, 2023 (WAM) — Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, the 2nd World Utilities Congress was organized by Abu Dhabi Hosted by National Energy Corporation (TAQA), it will be held in Abu Dhabi from 8-10 May 2023.

Organized by dmg events, the conference will be supported by the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE), Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC).

As the UAE prepares to host COP28 later this year, the 2023 World Utilities Congress will galvanize the utilities sector’s response to net zero emissions and the critical role it plays in supporting decarbonisation of industry. The event will provide an important platform to take stock of the progress that has been made and lay the groundwork for the important dialogue that will take place at the COP.

Around the theme of balancing energy security with affordability and net zero goals, the exhibition and conference will bring together key international stakeholders – including policy makers, business leaders, investors and innovators – on how the utility sector can drive change In-depth discussions are necessary to achieve key climate goals.

Over three days, the World Utilities Congress will welcome energy ministers from across the utility value chain, more than 10,000 industry professionals, 1,000 conference delegates, 250 expert speakers and 150 exhibiting companies.

These include EDF, Engie, Baker Hughes, Huawei, ABB, Westinghouse, Tabreed, Ansaldo Energia, ExxonMobil, Schneider Electric and Abu Dhabi Wastewater Services, who will showcase their industry-leading products in power generation, Innovative and latest technology solutions for power transmission and distribution, nuclear energy, water resource management and desalination.

During the strategy and technology session, government ministers, policy makers and utility industry leaders will come together to share insights, strategies and innovative solutions to the industry’s main challenge: balancing reliability and affordability with environmental sustainability . The Technical Committee is chaired by Dr. Afif Saif Al Yafei, CEO of TRANSCO, TAQA’s wholly-owned infrastructure subsidiary.

Sponsored by Atkins Global, Urenco and Westinghouse, the free-to-attend Nuclear Energy Forum will focus on nuclear energy’s role in achieving net-zero emissions and energy security, as well as emerging technologies shaping the nuclear industry.
