Yemeni insurgents say nine people were executed for the killing of political leaders | International News Houthi News

[ad_1]

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and former US President Donald Trump were tried in absentia and sentenced to death.

The Yemeni Houthi movement stated that the authorities have executed 9 men convicted for participating in the 2018 killing of the highest civilian leader of the armed organization Saleh Samad.

Samad, who held the presidency in the Houthi-controlled government, was killed in April 2018 when a coalition led by Saudi Arabia struck the port city of Hudaydah on the west coast of Yemen.

The Saba News Agency, which supports the rebels, said on Saturday that the nine people were shot and killed by firing squads in a square in the Yemeni capital. They are one of 17 people who were convicted by the Houthi Tribunal for participating in the killing of him.

Seven other people-including Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and former US President Donald Trump-were tried in absentia by the court and sentenced to death.

“The Attorney General executed the death penalty on 9 people involved in the murder [of al-Samad],” Saba reported. “They were shot dead in Tahrir Square… Senior Houthi leaders and residents of Sana’a were present. “

The worst humanitarian crisis in the world

Al-Sammad was the most senior official killed by the Alliance in the years of war. In this war, the Houthis are fighting forces loyal to the government of the internationally recognized southern port city of Aden.

The Houthis, who vowed to avenge his death, often fired ballistic missiles at Saudi Arabia. In August of this year, they also upgraded their cross-border attacks using drones.

The Yemeni government is supported by a coalition led by Saudi Arabia, which is supported by Western powers. Saudi Arabia and its main Gulf Arab allies claim that Houthi is the agent of its main rival, Iran, which the organization and Tehran deny.

The conflict began in 2014, when Houthis occupied Sana’a, prompting the Saudi Arabia-led coalition to intervene the following year.

Since then, thousands of people have been killed and millions have been pushed to the brink of famine. The United Nations has called it the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
