France and India cooperate to promote a “true multilateral” order

The two foreign ministers agreed to deepen the strategic partnership when discussing developments in the Indo-Pacific and Afghanistan.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the French Foreign Minister has reached an agreement with the Indian Foreign Minister to jointly develop a plan to promote a “true multilateral international order”.

The ministry said in a statement on Saturday that Jean-Yves Le Drian and Subramanyam Jashankar also agreed when they called for a deepening of the strategic partnership, “based on the two great sovereign states of the Indo-Pacific The relationship of political trust between the two.”

The two ministers agreed to meet in New York during the UN General Assembly next week to “work out a common concrete action plan to jointly defend a true multilateral international order,” it added.

Jaishankar said in a Twitter post that they discussed “developments in the Indo-Pacific region and Afghanistan.”

For several years, France has been promoting a European strategy to promote economic, political, and national defense relations from India and China to Japan and New Zealand. The European Union announced its Indo-Pacific regional plan this week.

Le Drian said in a statement on Friday that the cancellation of the special envoy was “unacceptable.” At the request of President Emmanuel Macron, he decided to recall the special envoy. “The statements announced by Australia and the United States are extremely serious. This is reasonable”.

A White House official said on Friday that the United States regrets France’s decision and will continue to participate in resolving differences between the two countries in the coming days.

Australia said on Saturday that it also regretted France’s decision, adding that it values ​​its relations with France and will continue to engage with Paris on many other issues.
