OCEAN SPRINGS (USA) – Mississippi police arrested a suspect in a shooting at a restaurant at a Cinco de Mayo party that left one dead and six wounded, May 8 (AP).
Ocean Springs police announced the arrests in a statement Saturday night. Police Chief Mark Dunston declined to name the suspect, citing the ongoing investigation.
“Detectives are continuing to conduct interviews and do not want details to affect any information that will be released,” Dunston said.
Ocean Springs Police Captain Ryan LeMaire told the Herald Sun that the suspect has been charged with first-degree murder, but other charges may also be filed.
Gunfire celebrations erupted Friday night at The Scratch Kitchen in downtown Ocean Springs, a coastal community a few miles east of Biloxi, Mississippi.
Chase Harmon, 19, of Pascagoula was shot, police said. Six others were injured. Two of them remained hospitalized Saturday afternoon, Le Maire said.
There were about 200 people in the restaurant when the gunman ran past employees who were conducting a security check at the patio entrance, the restaurant owner said. (Associated Press)
