Mohamed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Managing Director and CEO of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), has been elected President of the World Nuclear Association (WNA).
The position makes Al Hammadi the 2024 president of the World Nuclear Association.
Headquartered in London, the WNA supports the development of the global nuclear energy program and its members are responsible for 70% of the world’s nuclear power generation. Members appoint a Managing Director and elect a 20-member Board of Directors, which performs responsibilities related to governing the Association and setting policy and strategic objectives. Al Hammadi was elected as a member of the Board of Directors of WNA in April 2022.
Al Hammadi said: “Due to the UAE’s visionary leadership in transforming its energy sector, it has become an important organization for the World Nuclear Association, electing its Chairman as an important organization. Through their contribution to the development of UAE peace Continued support for the nuclear energy programme, with the UAE’s nuclear energy model hailed as a global success story.

His appointment underscores the UAE’s continued commitment to cooperating with the international nuclear energy community by sharing best practices, knowledge and lessons learned. The UAE has become a global benchmark for nuclear energy projects, with the Barakah nuclear power plant widely regarded as one of the most advanced in the world, delivered to the highest standards of safety, quality and transparency.
Barakah is a successful case study for other countries looking to diversify their energy mix at a time of international energy crisis. With three commercially operating units, Barakah is providing energy security, driving sustainable economic growth, driving innovation and contributing to the UAE’s strategy to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
