In the case of internal conflicts in the party, he accepted the nomination of the PDP Laban faction he led
The Philippine boxing champion and Senator Manny Pacquiao announced on Sunday that he will run for president in the Southeast Asian nation’s election next year.
Pacquiao accepted the nomination of the PDP Laban faction he led during internal conflicts in the party.
“Now is the time for a change. We are ready to meet the leadership challenge,” he told the conference.
“I accept your support as a presidential candidate. It is time for the oppressed to stand up. It is time to establish a clean government.”
Although the President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, who recently announced that he will run for vice president, is a member of the same political party, PDP Laban has split into two factions. One is led by Pacquiao and Senator Coco Pimentel, who are competing with Duterte, and the other is led by Alfonso Cousy, the energy minister who supports the country’s president.

Pacquiao’s candidacy was announced two weeks after a rally in the Cousy camp. At the meeting, Senator Fongo was nominated as the presidential candidate and the Philippine President Duterte was nominated as the vice president.although Duterte accepted the endorsement, Go refused earlier.
Both camps are now fighting for legitimacy, because PDP Laban can only have one representative in the polls. The Philippine Electoral Commission decides which faction is legal.
