UAE Maritime Week sets ambitious goals for maritime innovation and sustainability, ET Infra

Dubai: in United Arab Emirates Department of Energy and infrastructure (MOEI UAE), the highly anticipated 2023 Conference and Exhibition will be held at the Dubai World Trade Center from 15-19 May 2023.

The event is expected to serve as an important communication platform for advancing the field maritime businesses and chart a path to a more sustainable and prosperous future.

The announcement was made at a press conference attended by respected government officials, including representatives of MOEI UAE and Dubai Police, as well as the Emirates Shipping Association (ESA), Dubai Shipping Agents Association (DSAA) and the National Freight and Logistics Association ( NAFL), they outlined their strategic plan to upgrade the industry’s capabilities and enhance its efficiency and sustainability in a press release.

UAE Maritime Week and its flagship event, Seatrade Maritime Logistics Middle East (SMLME) to promote sustainable development and strengthen the UAE’s prospects for maintaining its category ‘B’ membership in the Executive Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The event, which will focus on promoting innovation in the maritime industry and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, coincides with the upcoming 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28). The combination of these two initiatives is expected to accelerate the transformation of the maritime industry and strengthen the UAE’s reputation as a global leader in sustainable development.

hessa almalek, MOEI, Advisor to the UAE Minister of Maritime Affairs, praised the UAE’s maritime heritage, noting its impressive potential and highly skilled workforce. With 20 world-class ports and an array of government and private sector entities, the UAE has become a global maritime hub, facilitating seamless international trade.

Al Malek highlighted the importance of the upcoming UAE Maritime Week as a platform for the industry to reflect on past achievements, improve efficiency and competitiveness and work towards a sustainable future. The government works with industry leaders to strengthen regulatory frameworks, invest in human capital, and create a business-friendly environment that encourages innovation and growth.

The UAE has invested heavily in modern infrastructure, technology and legal frameworks to ensure the safety and security of its waters and facilitate safe maritime trade. The country has also played an active role in international efforts to combat maritime threats such as piracy, terrorism, smuggling and illegal fishing.

Colonel Dr. Hassan Suhail Thabet, Deputy Director General of Dubai Port Police, highlighted the importance of communicating and collaborating with the maritime community through initiatives such as the Seafarers Conference to build a safe maritime ecosystem and raise awareness of related issues and solutions.

Emma Howell, Informa Markets Maritime & Cruise Portfolio Middle East Development Director, highlighted the significant impact of UAE Maritime Week on the local and regional industry. With more than 105 speakers and over 7,000 visitors, the event promises to drive the industry forward.

Attendees and exhibitors will sign over 10 MoUs during the event, proving that UAE Maritime Week is the ideal place to do business.

The event will bring together leading industry professionals from the UAE and the Middle East to discuss the most insightful topics, and organizers look forward to a successful next week.
