More than two million visitors are expected to attend the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which will be held at the National Exhibition Hall in Abu Dhabi, UAE from May 22 to 28, organized by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Centre, Abu Dhabi Arabic Center Abu Dhabi is part of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism. This year, the 32nd annual show, will feature approximately 1,300 exhibitors from nearly 90 countries.
The motto of the 2023 expo is “Never-Ending Stories” and the theme is sustainable development, which is in line with the UAE’s sustainable development year, marking the country’s move to host the annual COP28 climate change conference in November. Turkey will be the country of honor at this year’s fair, with several Turkish writers including Beşir Ayvazoğlu and Mehmet Hakkı Suçin in attendance.
This year, the fair is organizing more than 2,000 events in one week, including the 2nd International Arab Publishing and Creative Industries Conference on May 21-22, and will focus on the full range of events, from comic books to artificial intelligence. The “person in focus” of this year’s fair is the 14th-century Arab philosopher Ibn Khaldun. Tunisian historian and archaeologist Dr. Ibrahim Shabouh, philosopher Ahmed Barqawi and British author Anthony Sattin will discuss Khaldun’s work and legacy.
The fair will also be held in conjunction with the presentation of the 2023 Sheikh Zayed Book Prize and the International Prize for Arabic Fiction, winners of which will participate in the fair.Other authors and celebrities in attendance included Matt Ridley, the rational optimist; Spanish philosopher and author Carissa Véliz; and documentary filmmaker Ali Tabrizi Storm at seaone of Netflix’s top ten movies of 2021.
