New Zealand cricket team arrives in Dubai after leaving Pakistan-News

[ad_1]

BLACKCAPS arrived in Dubai last night (New Zealand time) after leaving Islamabad on a chartered flight.

A team of 34 players and support staff are now settling in their Dubai hotel and undergoing 24-hour self-isolation.

With the availability of New Zealand flights and managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) rooms, 24 of this group will return to New Zealand in the next week or so.

The MIQ arrangements that were originally booked for these team members at the end of the Pakistan tour will now be cancelled.

The rest of the tour will stay in the UAE and join the BLACKCAPS T20 World Cup squad before the start of the game on October 17.

New Zealand Cricket Chief Executive David White said that he thanked the Pakistan Cricket team for helping to organize a safe departure for the New Zealand team.

“We understand this is a very difficult time for PCB, and hope to convey our sincere gratitude to CEO Wasim Khan and his team for their professionalism and care.

Mr. White said that NZC and BLACKCAPS have been looking forward to the Pakistan series, but after receiving advice from the New Zealand government on specific and credible threats on Friday, they had no choice but to abandon the tournament.

This proposal is supported by NZC security consultants who work on the ground in Pakistan and other independent sources.

Although the general idea of the threat was immediately shared with PCB, Mr. White reiterated that the specific details cannot and will not be made public-privately or publicly.

“What I can say is that we were told that this is a concrete and credible threat to the team.

“Before making a decision, we had several dialogues with New Zealand government officials. After we informed the PCB of our position, we learned that there was a telephone discussion between the prime ministers of the two countries.

“Unfortunately, based on the advice we received, we could not stay in this country.”

Mr. White said that based on a comprehensive assessment of the security situation and the promised risk mitigation measures, Tourism New Zealand was satisfied with the initial decision to visit Pakistan.

“Everything changed on Friday,” he said. “The recommendations have changed and the threat level has changed. Therefore, we have taken the only responsible course of action.”
