WASHINGTON, May 15 (AP) – Russia wants to buy more advanced attack drones from Iran after using up most of the 400 drones it previously bought from Tehran, the White House said Monday for use in The Kremlin’s war in Ukraine.

The Biden administration released satellite imagery and intelligence findings last year that it said showed Iran sold hundreds of attack drones to Russia.

Officials have been saying publicly for months that the U.S. believes Iran is considering selling hundreds of ballistic missiles to Russia, but Washington has seen no evidence that a deal has been completed.

“Iran has also continued to supply Russia with one-way attack drones (unmanned aerial vehicles). Since August, Iran has provided Russia with more than 400 drones, mainly of the Shahed variety,” White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said.

“Russia has used most of these drones, using them to target critical Ukrainian infrastructure in Ukraine. By supplying Russia with these drones, Iran has been directly contributing to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine,” Kirby said. told reporters.

The latest revelations are part of the administration’s ongoing intelligence findings detailing what U.S. officials say is a deepening defense partnership between Russia and Iran.

It is part of a broader government effort to declassify and release the findings of an intelligence investigation that Moscow has indicted on Ukraine’s nearly 15-month war, in hopes of furthering the global isolation of Russia. (Associated Press)
