UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi shared a stunning photo of the capital Abu Dhabi from the International Space Station (ISS), commenting: “Here is the heart of our beloved home, UAE ❤️
“A city with a vibrant present and a hopeful future… the capital of our nation 🇦🇪 #AbuDhabi.”
This photo was taken during a flyby of the United Arab Emirates from the International Space Station.
Earlier this month, Neyadi spied on the emirate of Dubai with a night photo showing the beautiful face of the emirate, commenting: “Dubai is almost as bright as the stars here. #MyDubai🤍✨”
Al Neyadi continues the longest mission of an Arab astronaut on the International Space Station, lasting 6 months.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center shared another photo of Neyadi and his colleagues.
“Astronaut Sultan El Neyadi and his colleague Warren Hoberg hold the tool used to open the space-facing side of the ‘Unity’ module aboard the International Space Station,” the space center said.
Neyadi is the second astronaut from the UAE after Hazzaa Al Mansoori’s eight-day space mission in 2019.
He was the first Arab to embark on a long-duration space mission.
The UAE is a newcomer to the world of space exploration, but is quickly making its mark.
It sent an unmanned spacecraft to Mars in 2021, the Arab world’s first interplanetary mission, and a probe to the moon last year.
In April, Japanese startup ispace’s Hakuto-R lunar lander apparently crashed on the lunar surface, and the UAE-developed Rashid rover went missing.
Sheikh Mohammed quickly directed MBRSC to start work on a second rover called Rashid 2 .
