UAE is building an off-road luxury train for Middle East ‘rail travel’

Traveling from one end of the United Arab Emirates to the other just got a whole lot more comfortable.

This week, the country’s rail operator Etihad Rail and italian hotel company arsenal An agreement was signed at the Middle East Railway Conference in Abu Dhabi to launch plans for a new luxury train line. The “Rail Cruise” is expected to take you across the UAE, from Fujairah in the east to the historic Liwa Desert in Abu Dhabi. According to National News, the 15 luxury coaches are being produced in Puglia and Sicily. Although an official launch date for the train has yet to be announced, it was created to drive economic and social development.

“By creating a luxury train experience, we are introducing a unique world-class service to the region and contributing to boosting tourism in the UAE,” Etihad Rail chief executive Shadi Malak said in a statement. “Additionally, we will be able to showcase the country’s diverse heritage and beauty to visitors from around the world.”

According to Arsenale, the design of the luxurious carriages of the unnamed train reflects Emirati heritage. Its upscale interiors and onboard services, along with Arsenale’s iconic ‘Made in Italy’ signature branding, will play a key role in its production. The new train will be the Armory’s second international luxury train project, following the recently announced “Desert Dream” project in Saudi Arabia. The UAE rail network officially opened in February and Etihad Rail’s freight services are now operational. Public passenger trains are also under construction.

Arsenale CEO Paolo Barletta said in a statement: “We are delighted to be partnering with Etihad Rail on this groundbreaking project that will facilitate the exploration of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Fantastic and exciting territory beyond famous destinations such as the United States.” “Rail cruising is the future of tourism and Arsenale wants to offer it in some of the most beautiful places in the world, introducing this fascinating and sustainable new form of travel.” Arsenale is known for its trains designed in collaboration with Accor Orient Express and FS Italian Foundation.
