The National Basketball Association, the International Basketball Federation and the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism announced today that the 13thday Basketball Without Borders Asia will be held on the NYU campus in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from Friday, June 2nd to Monday, June 5th.
This marks the first time the NBA and FIBA’s global basketball development and community outreach program will be held in the Arabian Gulf.
BWB Asia 2023 will bring together Asia’s top men’s and women’s players aged 18 and under to learn directly from current and former NBA, WNBA and FIBA players, legends and coaches, and compete against their peers across the region.
Campers and coaches who will be announced prior to camp will also participate in life skills, leadership development and community service programs.
In conjunction with BWB Asia 2023, the Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi Elite Training Camp will be held at the NYU campus in Abu Dhabi from June 2 to Sunday, June 4.
The camp will bring together 40 top boys and girls aged 15 and under from the Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League for basic skills development and 5-on-5 competition. In January, the NBA and DCT Abu Dhabi launched an expanded version of the second season of the Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League, featuring both boys’ and girls’ leagues featuring 450 players aged 11-14 from schools across the UAE capital.
“Basketball Without Borders has played a key role in developing top international players for more than two decades, with more than 100 players advancing to the NBA and WNBA,” said NBA Europe and Middle East General Manager Ralph Rivera. “We are delighted to be bringing this transformative program to the Arabian Gulf for the first time and thank FIBA and DCT Abu Dhabi for their commitment to helping develop the next generation of players in the UAE and beyond.”

BWB Asia 2023 and the Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi Elite Training Camp are part of a multi-year partnership between the NBA and Abu Dhabi DCT, featuring two preseason games between the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday 5 October and Saturday 10 October . As part of the 2023 NBA Abu Dhabi Games, it will be held at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island on the 7th. The partnership also includes a variety of interactive fan events, including appearances by current and former NBA players, a series of NBA FIT clinics to promote health and wellness, and an NBA 2K League exhibition event. Since 2001, BWB has attracted more than 3,900 participants from 134 countries, including 105 former campers who made it to the NBA or WNBA. The NBA and FIBA have hosted 67 BWB camps in 44 cities on six continents.
