[ad_1]

this Abu Dhabi International book fair (ADIBF) has unveiled its diverse plans for the 32nd edition of over 2,000 events, which will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center from 22-28 May.

Organized by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Center under the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, the show will welcome more than 1,300 exhibitors from nearly 90 countries, authors, publishers, creatives from around the world and other industry professionals will participate globally.

Event attendees can enjoy an immersive educational experience and entertaining experiences through programs such as book signings with renowned authors, insightful panel discussions, creative workshops, live art demonstrations and musical performances.

The expo’s theme is ‘Sustainable Development’ to coincide with the UAE’s ‘Year of Sustainable Development’, marking the country’s upcoming hosting of the annual COP28 climate change conference this November. The fair’s program will include events focused on the future of the planet, with panel discussions covering broader sustainability perspectives and exploring ways to make publishing more sustainable.

The Republic of Turkey, as this year’s Guest of Honor, will host a special program celebrating the country’s creative output and highlighting cultural exchanges between Turkey and the Arab world. Panel discussions and events will explore Turkish literature and poetry, translations of Turkish classics and the country’s rich culinary traditions in sessions such as ‘Women Who Changed the Game’, ‘Philosophy for Children’ and ‘Turkish Culinary Culture’ featuring renowned authors such as Besir Ayvazoglu and Mehmet Hakki Sucin. A dedicated Turkish Pavilion will welcome publishers and partners from the region, including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey and the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce.

The focus of this year’s fair is the 14th-century Arab philosopher Ibn Khaldun, widely considered the father of social science. The program will feature conferences and workshops focused on the work and legacy of Ibn Khaldun.

The fair will also celebrate the Arabic Literature Prize and translation grants, introducing the 2023 Sheikh Zayed Book Award (SZBA) winners through a meet-and-greet event, which will also feature meet-and-greets and book signings throughout the fair. Winners of the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF), as well as IPAF shortlisted authors, will also be recognized, as ADIBF 2023 marks the 15th anniversary of Abu Dhabi hosting the award.

Visitors will have the opportunity to hear from a variety of international creatives, including Matt Ridley, author of The Rational Optimist and How Innovation Works; Spanish philosopher and author Carissa Veliz, researcher on AI ethics at the University of Oxford Associate Professor; and Ali Tabrizi, director of the documentary “At Sea,” one of Netflix’s top ten most-watched movies worldwide in 2021.

The festival will also feature youth representation in all programs and events, including cultural, professional and creative projects.
