KUALA LUMPUR: Talks with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Abu Dhabi Executive Council Chairman Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. The talks will begin shortly.
The prime minister said the discussions would coincide with Sheikh Khalid’s four-day visit to Malaysia.
“The settlement between 1MDB and the International Petroleum Investment Corporation (Ipic) involves an additional payment of US$1.8 billion (RM8.05 billion) to the country, and (as we all know) the Crown Prince is currently in the country to continue discussions, including on investment,” he said during question time. .
He was responding to a question posed by Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin (Larut) who asked the government to explain the new tough policies implemented by the unity government to stimulate the national economy, taking into account the risks facing the world economy.
On March 6, Anwar praised the Attorney General (AG) and civil servants involved in the settlement talks between 1MDB and Abu Dhabi state-owned companies International Petroleum Investment Co (Ipic) and Aabar Investments PJS.
Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Department (PMD) monthly general assembly in Putrajaya, Anwar said the settlement exceeded the government’s expectations.
The special visit is expected to strengthen the long-standing good relationship between Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which has been upgraded to a strategic partnership on 27 September 2022.
Sheikh Khalid is scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to Anwar on Monday (May 22) to exchange views on various issues of mutual interest including bilateral, regional and international relations.
