LONDON, May 23 (AP) — Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was fined for violating his government’s pandemic lockdown rules, is again reporting to police for more potential breaches.

The Times of London said on Tuesday that civil servants had reported potential breaches of Johnson’s alleged visits to Checkers, the prime minister’s official country residence, and the leader’s Downing Street residence.

The Metropolitan Police and Thames Valley Police said they were assessing details of incidents that occurred between June 2020 and May 2021.

The Times said the potential breach came to light as Johnson prepares to testify in an upcoming inquiry into how the UK has handled the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cabinet Office, a government department that supports the prime minister’s work, said “information came to light in the course of preparing evidence for submission to the COVID Inquiry.”

“In accordance with obligations under the Civil Service Act, the material has been passed on to the relevant authorities and is now being dealt with by them.”

Johnson’s office said the former leader insisted “these activities were lawful and did not breach any COVID regulations.”

Johnson was one of dozens of people fined last year over the “partygate” scandal over government parties held in breach of lockdown in 2020 and 2021, when social events were severely restricted in the UK.

He resigned as prime minister in July 2022 after a series of scandals about his ethics and judgment turned many lawmakers in the ruling Conservative Party against him. (Associated Press)
