PUBLIC ART ABU DHABI Fostering Creativity + Connecting Communities
Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched Abu Dhabi Public Art, an initiative to embrace the emirate’s cultural heritage and integrate it into society.The initiative launched on March 20 with the unveiling of WAVE, a people Digital media artwork by Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation art collective d’strict. Using Anamorphic Illusion technology, the two-dimensional installation reproduces the ever-moving three-dimensional waves, Debut at COEX K-Pop SquareSeoul, South Korea.
Public Art Abu Dhabi will provide everyone with access to new cultural programming, investing more than $35 million annually to strengthen the emirate’s creative industries through public art.

$35 million annual budget will fund public art programs
Abu Dhabi Public Art comprises three key long-term components that contribute to the city’s vibrant cultural scene. Set to launch in November 2024 as a prestigious event, the Abu Dhabi Biennial of Public Art will be curated by Reem Fadda and Galit Eilat, known for their extensive experience engaging with communities and the arts in public spaces. Additionally, Manar Abu Dhabi provides an enchanting platform to showcase immersive light art sculptures and installations, inviting viewers to embark on a mesmerizing journey across the water. Furthermore, by directly commissioning artists, Abu Dhabi Public Art promotes creativity and strengthens the emirate’s identity, enriching public spaces such as tunnels, roundabouts, bridges and parks, making an important artistic contribution.
Reem Fadda, Director of Cultural Foundation and Abu Dhabi Cultural Programs, emphasized the importance of the community in Abu Dhabi’s public art. The transformative power of Abu Dhabi Public Art Biennial and Manar Abu Dhabi’s commissioned artworks will create meaningful connections with people and resonate in their surroundings. These artistic endeavors serve as a gateway for the creative community, allowing Abu Dhabi to showcase its vision on a global scale. Galit Eilat will co-curate the Biennale with Reem. This ambitious curatorial project will showcase a diverse range of artists from the UAE, the region and around the world.
Public Art Abu Dhabi will annually commission major works from artists to enhance the emirate’s landmarks. These installations will enrich the daily lives of the public and reinforce Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading cultural destination with a unique identity.
