Having a pet can bring great joy and comfort, but it can also be a huge responsibility. In the UAE, there are several rules and laws in place to ensure that residents can enjoy the companionship of their pets without causing harm or disturbance to other residents. Dogs make great pets because not only are they very friendly and friendly animals, but they are also very protective.

However, not all dogs can tolerate Dubai’s hot and mild climate. If you’re considering getting a puppy as a pet, here are some dog breeds that will thrive in Dubai’s summer:

Golden retriever

Golden Retrievers, as their name suggests, are beautiful, fluffy dogs who are extremely playful and intelligent. They are very warm creatures and can be great friends for you and your family. They can adapt to warm climates, but be aware that these dogs can grow to large size and need regular walks and physical exercise. So only get a Golden Retriever if you have an apartment/house big enough to accommodate them and are able to take them for daily walks!

Beagles

Beagles not only get along well with children but also with other dogs and can withstand temperatures in excess of 32 degrees Celsius, making them perfect for the Dubai climate. They are easygoing and happy animals that can live up to 15 years or more. However, these dogs require constant maintenance and adequate exercise to stay healthy.

Chihuahua

Chihuahuas are pocket-sized small dogs that thrive in hot weather due to their small bodies. Chihuahuas are “purse dogs,” family-friendly, small and easy to keep, making them ideal pets in cities like Dubai. However, if you have a toddler, you may want to reconsider getting a Chihuahua, as the dog can injure itself when being roughly handled by a child. They are great pets for first-time owners because they are easy to train and very loyal.

beagle

All types of terriers are well suited to the warm to hot climate of the Dubai region. Since these breeds have thinner fur, they do well in the heat and allow their fur to grow out for protection in the winter. Because of their smaller size and needing less exercise than hounds and collies, terriers make good pets for smaller apartments. They are great with kids, are active and need about an hour of exercise a day.

border collie

If you like sports and want a pet to exercise with, look no further than the Border Collie. These dogs are very friendly and love children and socializing. They can tolerate temperatures of 30°C or higher, but require plenty of water. Border Collies also get along well with other dogs and cats. They are very energetic and very alert pets that need weekly brushing and don’t need much attention to go about their business!

Private ownership of wild, dangerous and exotic animals as pets is prohibited in the UAE. Even within the dog category, 11 breeds of dogs are banned as pets in the UAE (unless they meet the legal requirements to be service or emotional support animals).

List of dog breeds banned as pets in Dubai:

• American Staffordshire Terrier

• American Pitbull

• Staffordshire Bull Terrier

• Spanish Mastiff (canary bay)

There are multiple scientific and social benefits to keeping dogs as pets. While being a pet parent is a huge responsibility, it’s totally worth it – as long as you do the necessary research and get a pet that’s well suited to the climate of the area.
