Leslie Montoya got her start in entertainment with free resources from an organization in Los Angeles.
“It’s a very competitive industry and I started here as a Music Forward student,” said Montoya, a BMG representative.
Montoya took advantage of an orientation event organized by Music Forward. This gave her the opportunity to be part of one of the most important companies in the music industry.
“Thanks to them, I now have the opportunity to work at BMG, which ranks fourth in the world in music publishing,” said Montoya.
Music Forward began 30 years ago with a mission to bring the arts disciplines into schools and communities through programs that promote cultural diversity.
Since then, the organization has met with more than 1 million young people, aged 14 to 24, who have been helped in many different ways.
“[It helps you to] Get to know people, find out what resources are available, and we’re more than happy to help,” says singer-songwriter Karla Torres.
The organization has provided approximately $42 million through various programs aimed at providing opportunities to individuals who at some point may become the music industry’s next big star.
“We have over $60,000 in scholarships. We work with recruiters at institutions where they can talk to them,” says Oswaldo Navarro, who runs the education program.
The Music Forward Foundation will host All Access Fest, a virtual career fair for young adults ages 16 to 24, providing information on careers in the music industry. The exhibition will be held on August 2nd.
