UAE: 100 stakeholders support Dubai Digital Health Strategy

DUBAI: The Dubai Health Authority today hosted a workshop at Emirates Towers in Dubai, where more than 100 key healthcare stakeholders, including healthcare providers and technology partners, discussed the Dubai Digital Health Strategy.

The strategy, which is being finalized, aims to deliver patient-centric and data-driven healthcare delivery, regulation and integration through digital innovation.

The workshop provided an opportunity to outline the strategy in detail and an opportunity for stakeholders to provide feedback before the Dubai Health Sector Strategy is finalized.

Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Chief Executive Officer, Corporate Shared Support Services, DHA, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the health sector for its support and contribution in finalizing this key strategy.

Al Nuaimi emphasized that collaboration is a key component to the success of the strategy and that building a digital ecosystem for the health sector is in line with the UAE’s digital strategy aimed at providing the highest quality services to community members.

Al Nuaimi said: “In Dubai, we are implementing digital transformation across the healthcare landscape, from telemedicine to electronic claims, disease monitoring and management, and electronic health records and health information exchange. Our aim is to harness the power of technology to transform healthcare in Dubai service delivery and provide patients with the highest quality patient-centred, individualized care.”

Dr Nahed Monsef, Director, Department of Strategy and Governance, DHA, said: “The Digital Strategy provides a detailed framework to help us digitally transform all areas of the health sector, from medical management and processes to patient services, so that we can best leverage technology to further Strengthening the health system and delivering the highest quality care to our patients. The Dubai Digital Health Strategy will empower the people of Dubai to better manage their health and well-being by creating links between digital technologies and health-related science.”

The goals of the strategy include:

• Digitize the patient journey throughout the care continuum.

• Define the governance framework, legislation and policy for digital health.

• Maximize healthcare system interoperability

• Leverage a robust and up-to-date infrastructure

• Leverage advanced information management, data analytics and artificial intelligence.

• Leading the field of digital health research and development

• Build a digital health ecosystem by empowering digital communities and creating platforms for human capital training and planning

Dr Mohammad Al Redha, Director, Health Informatics and Smart Health, DHA, said: “Digital strategies in healthcare will benefit the health sector, enhancing patient delivery and providing data to plan effective evidence-based population health and disease prevention strategies. Meanwhile , which will enable patients to use digital tools to track their health and wellbeing.”

One such initiative is the NABIDH initiative, the Emirate of Dubai’s electronic medical records initiative, which aims to provide patients and their healthcare professionals with access to electronic medical records. The file provides a complete snapshot of the patient’s medical history and flags allergies. Linked to the UAE’s Riyati initiative, the project ensures that in the future everyone in the UAE will have an electronic medical record.

At the event, 52 hospitals in the UAE were welcomed to join the NABIDH initiative. This means that currently 100% of hospitals in Dubai are integrated with the NABIDH system, and by the end of this year, all clinics in the emirate will also be part of the system.

Al Redha said: “NABIDH is a key initiative in our journey to digitize healthcare. We are proud to partner with health institutions in the public and private health sectors to help us realize this vision and further strengthen Dubai’s health sector.”

Al Redha added that NABIDH enables the centralized storage and secure exchange of patient health information among healthcare professionals.

For patients, this means that their healthcare provider will have an electronic medical file in which all medical reports are stored securely, and when a patient is transferred from one facility to another, the medical file will follow.

Al Redha said all of these pioneering initiatives will form part of a larger framework for Dubai’s Digital Health Framework. “At the end of the day, our number one priority is patient care and well-being. Digitization of health services not only benefits the health sector by reducing costs and increasing efficiency, but also ensures patient empowerment, contributes to patient-centred care and An end-to-end seamless patient experience throughout the care process.”
