13th BWB Asia Summer Camp gathers 80 top high school students in Abu Dhabi

The National Basketball Association (NBA), the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) announced that 80 top high school students from more than 20 countries will travel to Abu Dhabi for 13day Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Asia Edition.

The event, which began Friday and concluded Monday, took place on the NYU campus in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

BWB Asia 2023 will bring together 40 boys and 40 girls from Asia and the Middle East to compete against their peers and learn directly from current and former NBA players and coaches.

The campers will feature current NBA players Sadiq Bey (Atlanta Hawks) and Monte Morris (Washington Wizards) as well as NBA veterans Taj Gibson (most recently with the Washington Wizards) and Rodney McGruder (most recently Detroit Pistons).

NBA Assistant Coaches John Bryant (Chicago Bulls), Ryan Forhan-Kelly (Brooklyn Nets), Ryan Richman (Wizards), Sean Sweeney (Dallas Mavericks) and Mike Weiner (Indiana Pacers) will also serve as coaches for BWB Asia.

Nina Hsieh (Charlotte Hornets) is the athletic coach at training camp.

NBA players and coaches will lead BWB campers through a variety of activities, including athletic efficiency drills, offensive and defensive skills stations, three-point shooting contests, 5-on-5 competitions, and life skills and leadership development sessions.

BWB Asia 2023 coaches and members of NBA Referee Operations will lead development clinics for local coaches and referees throughout the week.

A ceremony on the final day of training camp will honor Kim Bohuny Camp MVP, Patrick Baumann Sportsmanship Award, Three Point Shootout Champion and Defensive MVP from Experience Abu Dhabi, honoring boys and girls who stand out on the field and as leaders.

BWB Asia 2023 is supported by Nike, a global partner of BWB since 2002, who will provide participants with Nike apparel and footwear, and Gatorade will hydrate players and coaches throughout the camp.

The global basketball development and community outreach program of the BWB, NBA and FIBA ​​has had more than 3,900 participants from 134 countries and territories since 2001, with 106 former campers advancing to the NBA or WNBA. The NBA and FIBA ​​hosted 66 BWB camps in 43 cities in 31 countries on six continents.

In conjunction with BWB Asia 2023, the Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi Elite Training Camp will also be held at the NYU campus in Abu Dhabi from Friday to Sunday.

The camp will bring together 40 top boys and girls aged 15 and under from the Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League for basic skills development and 5-on-5 competition.
