Wander Ellwood brings Wednesday’s entertainment to boroughs

[ad_1]

ELLWOOD CITY – Wander Ellwood is all about music, food, drink and a good time. Starting Wednesday, it’s back, bigger and better than last year.

It’s Elwood Open Street Night on Lawrence Avenue from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesdays.

Ryan McCandless, president of the Ellwood Chamber of Commerce, said last year’s Wander Ellwood event was an overwhelming success, with businesses open, vendors and downtown crowded.

There will be at least 60 suppliers of all kinds, including food trucks, breweries and distilleries, and the open container ban has been lifted.

There will be craft and art vendors, nonprofits, apparel and jewelry, professional services, candles and accessories, gift bag giveaways and more. McCandless said the suppliers were also from Newcastle.

Music group 288 will present Wander Ellwood and the Summer Series concerts at the Plaza.

Dave Huber, the group’s spokesman, describes their music as acoustic rock, and says they play everything from the 1960s to the present, including Tom Petty and The Eagles.

The trio, which includes Huber on bass and vocals, Aaron Hinkle on guitar and Adam Custozzo on drums, is a regular at Shakespeare Theater and other local festivals.

Formed in 2004, they named their group 288 because they both grew up along Route 288 in Lawrence County.

After graduating from Riverside High School in 2004, the trio attended Penn State University, where they graduated in the 2010-11 academic year.

“We’ve been playing together for 19 years, but we don’t play as much as we used to. Life, marriage and kids have changed and we need time to be with our family,” Huber said.

The band is delighted to be participating in the summer concert series for the first time.

“The best part about making music is seeing people love it. Seeing them smile and nod and dance. Knowing they love it is why we do it,” Huber said.

McCandless said the Chamber arranged the event by partnering with the City of Elwood Community Enrichment, the Borough of the City of Elwood and the City of Elwood Revitalization.

“It’s an ideal situation for businesses, civic organizations and nonprofits working together for the town. It creates a great team and a great bond,” McCandless said.
