UAE chairs Security Council, vows to promote interfaith dialogue – Region – World

Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, UAE Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said: “We are delighted to assume the presidency of the UN Security Council for the second time during our tenure and to fulfill our commitments.”

The rotating presidency of the Security Council is 15 members of the Security Council for a one-month term, of which 10 are non-permanent members. The UAE enters the second year of the Council’s two-year term. It served as Chair of the Council until March 2022.

The UAE will convene three high-level meetings of the council in June as it seeks to promote interreligious dialogue, address regional challenges and address the impact of climate change on conflicts around the world, the official UAE news agency WAM reported.

“Our signature event aims to highlight and reinforce these key priorities for Council members and the wider international community,” Nusseibeh said.

The UAE will also seek to strengthen cooperation between the United Nations and the League of Arab States, as agreed with other members of the Security Council.

“By using all the tools at our disposal, we can facilitate dialogue and bridge the views of Council members so that we can build consensus on the most pressing global issues and fully implement the Council’s mandate,” Nusseibeh added.

The UAE will also hold a ministerial briefing to discuss the value of human fraternity in promoting and sustaining peace.

“The alarming rise in intolerance, hate speech, racism and extremism has undoubtedly fueled violence and divided communities,” Nusseibeh stressed.

“As the world faces the highest number of armed conflicts since 1945, this event could not be more timely.”
